Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions for Reading Electrical Service
Here are some of the questions Reading homeowners and business owners ask most often before scheduling electrical work.
Do I need a permit for electrical work in Reading?
Most panel upgrades, rewiring, and new circuit installations require a permit through the Town of Reading's building department. Our electrical contractor team pulls the required permits and schedules inspections as part of the job, so you don't have to manage that process yourself.
How fast can you get to my home or business in Reading?
For emergency electrician calls, including power outages and safety hazards, we prioritize getting a technician out the same day whenever possible. Routine electrical services like panel upgrades or EV charger installation are typically scheduled within a few business days.
Do you work on commercial electrical systems in Reading, not just homes?
Yes. As your emergency commercial electrician and everyday electrical contractor, we handle commercial electrical upgrades, commercial electrical repair, and commercial electrical installation for offices, retail spaces, and buildings along corridors like Walkers Brook Drive, including commercial EV charging station installation and equipment electrical installation for specialized machinery.
What happens if my home's wiring doesn't meet current code?
Older Reading homes sometimes have wiring that predates current safety standards, especially around knob-and-tube systems or undersized panels. We'll walk you through what needs to change, whether that's a full rewiring or targeted electrical repair, and bring the system up to code so it passes inspection.

Mr. Castillo was prompt for the scheduled appointment, he came equipped with his tools/van/uniform. He went to work immediately, friendly, knew where to trouble shoot the electrical problem, corrected the problem within one hour of arrival while running down to the basement and up to the second floor bedroom several times where my daughters lights had gone out. I recommend this electrical expert to repair your electrical issues and he can also communicate in spanish , I give this company five stars *****!

I recently had several electrical issues at my home and was fortunate to find Amubury. He arrived promptly and was able to accurately diagnose the problems within minutes. I was incredibly impressed that he was able to fix everything in just a couple of hours. He even took the initiative to run out and purchase a necessary replacement part himself, which kept the process moving efficiently without any delays. Throughout the entire experience, Amubury was professional, courteous, and highly efficient. What stood out most was how thorough he was—he took the time to clearly explain the issues and walked me through the solutions, making sure all of my questions were answered. His pricing was very reasonable given the high quality and speed of his work. I was genuinely impressed and would highly recommend his services to anyone in the area. I was lucky enough to meet Amaury when I moved into my “new” home almost 10 years ago and he has been my go- to for everything electrical since! From installing a new fan on a cathedral ceiling to recessed and living room spotlights to changing out fan switches in bathrooms - he has done it all. Fast, responsive, fair and courteous- I really can’t say enough about Amaury, he truly is the BEST. Thanks Amaury!

We lucked out when I found Amaury on Angie's List years ago. Since then, he's fixed issues that have cropped up, installed a generator hook-up, and then replaced our entire (very old) electrical panel. He's responsive, thorough, knowledgable, insightful, voluntarily explains things and is fairly priced. Cannot recommend him enough!

Amaury quickly came over to check over the electrical wiring for our generator and electrical box, making a couple of thoughtful suggestions and quickly ensuring that we had heat in the event of a power outage in the Jan '26 snowstorm. Would recommend Amaury for any number of electrical work.

Amaury was super knowledgeable, efficient (he didn’t waste time), and I appreciate that he was conscious of the neat and clean look of the job putting in some complicated ceiling lighting. He asked me my opinion along the way so as to get just what I wanted while completing the job. And he left no mess behind. Thank you Amaury- first time using your service. Looking forward to having you as a reliable electrician for future jobs.
